Here is the Creation Story……
This drum was birthed on St Brigid’s day, the first of February. For reasons I will never know it was clear no that she was not ready to be claimed her guardian and so she has been sat waiting on the old Welsh spinning chair in my cottage on the edge of the woods. Over the past couple of days she has been calling to me, now is the time so I sense her guardian is now ready for her arrival.
She is a 14 inch a Red Deer Hide drum, stretched over a birchwood hoop, hand painted with the Imbolc hare. The day I birthed her I can across the body of an Imbolc hare, sleeping and dreaming amongst the first, early signs of spring. There bright eyes still glistening as they watched the in-between spaces as though they were observing all that is still to come. It is said that if you look into the eyes of a hare you will see the whole world for they hold a window into the mystery of the wild and all that is unseen by our human eyes.
Yesterday on my wanders on these land I can across a baby levirate, stunned by a car I gathered the little one in my arms, and let them nestle in the warmth of my jumper. As they moved across into the spirit the world I held deep that ceremony for their life and then grieved over their unlived life, the life in these lands they will never know.
There is an essence of this bound within this drum, along with the pathway back to the lives were meant to live, before we got caught up in the current vibration of our humanness.
The birchwood hoop, upon which this hide is stretched upon , symbolizes regeneration, embodying the spirit of a pioneer tree, traditionally used for the Witch’s besom, Beltane fires and Maypoles, and Yule logs. Referred to as the "White Lady of the Woods," the Birch tree is a symbol of strength and elegance. Known as one of the earliest plants to leaf out in spring, it has become a representation of rebirth. The Birch tree holds significant value in Celtic, European, and Native American folklore and is connected to the Norse rune Berkana, as well as Beith, the initial character of the Ogham script.
This drum feels like an emergence to me. A way back to who you were meant to be when you plucked from the place between the stars – an invitation back to your birthright and through the mysterty she holds she will help illuminate and rebirth you into your truth.
With this drum, you will carry forth the oldest of magic and the deepest becoming. It utter magic and I am full of love that it was calling for you.
