Wild Medicine Drum
Held on a 20 inch Hand painted oak hoop with Red deer hide, with the hair on, finished with a oak rub which helps to retain the hair - this also give the dark brown colour to the hide.
The hoop is hand painted inside with the words
•Wisdom
•Truth
•Love
And wrapped around them are hand painted oak leaves, a red fox, a feather and a hare.
The handle is woven into a Stags heads - a design handed down to me by my drum making mentor / teacher - Jonathan @ Heron Drums.
Hair on drums are more suspectable to weather changes - they like to be kept warm to maintain their resonance. this is due to the hair covering the raw hide. Some of the hair will shed when this drum is played - this is normal for this kind of drum.
All my drums come with a hand felted drum beater, anointing oil, care instructions and their creation story

This beautiful hair on, 20 inch drum on an Oak fame has been patiently waiting to be birthed., nudging me that the time is now right for the magic held here to step Earth Side.
Hair on drums feel so special. There is something about retaining the hair that expands that sense of wildness, as though all the elements of wind, rain, snow and sun are still held here. The sounding of these drums holds a low deep resonance, like a thousand hooves galloping over land.
The hide for this drum originates from one of my preferred suppliers in the Scottish Highlands. In Celtic tradition, the Red Deer is revered and deeply connected to nature, spirituality, and cultural heritage, symbolizing renewal, transformation, strength, virility, and serving as a graceful spiritual guide.
The Red Deer and stag hold a place of honor as some of the most sacred creatures in Celtic lore.
The Oak hoop Oaks are stepped in Folklore & Myth. They are said to hold tremendous healing powers, which some say can bring the greatest healing simply by walking around an Oak tree and wishing the illness to be carried off by the first bird that fly’s from its branches.
In Cornwall it was said a nail driven into an oak cured toothache, while in Wales, rubbing the oak with the palm of your left hand on Midsummer’s Day kept you healthy all year.
Oaks are said to give a special virtue to other plants that grew upon its trunk or branches, such as the mistletoe and polypody fern. The herbalist Gerard said, ‘that which growth on the bodies of olde Okes is preferred before the rest: in steede of this most do use that which is found under the Okes….’
Oaks continues to weave symbolise Strength, protection, steadfastness.into this drum - it gives me such shivers.
When I was birthing this drum it spoke ot me the words of Love, Truth and Wisdom. The sense that at the centre of everything these are integral words to not only live by, but also embody. I suspect that this is what this drums medicine will circle around.
All my drums are birthed in a deep ceremony, honored and loved.
